Which C# Adobe library should I use to open a PDF in Acrobat Reader 9, 10, and 11?

Hi, all.

I have a Visual Studio C# application that writes an Adobe PDF using iText. Does anyone know how to programmatically open the PDF on client's computer and ensure it works for Adobe Reader 9, 10, and 11?

-I have Adobe Reader XI on my machine and "Adobe Pdf Reader" is NOT showing up in my COM references. This is the library that I've heard people use for this.

-The "Adobe Reader File Preview Type Library" is showing up there, but does not add to my project because of the following error message: "A reference to 'Adobe Reader File Preview Type Library' could not be added. Could not register the ActiveX type library....adoberfp.dll'." But I haven't persued this further becuase I'm not even convinced I should be using this library, which brings me to my next point:

-Please don't tell me to go read the Adobe SDK spec. In searching for this answer, I found posts on here with people asking this question and getting not great answers, or half-*** answers to go read the Adobe SDK spec. I have the Adobe SDK spec, it's terrible. The example source code is laughably poor and reads like it was written by someone with bad english, with poor naming, commenting, and documentation, and there is no separate document that explains what the source code does. I think the reason people say this is because they haven't read it themselves and they don't know the answer and hope to deal with the question by handwaving. Sorry for the rant if you weren't going to do that!

Thanks in advance, if anyone knows.

Adobe reader updates have ruined access to pdf files

I have read enough of these now to realize that - yes it is a problem with adobe - unlike one fo the responses that says it is not adobes problem.  Ever since the upgrade no one can open pdf files.  All of the world pdf files did not go corrupt at the same time, the only common like is the adobe upgrade.  I went in and tried to process a trail that does not exist on my mac: edit/pref/gen/protected mode at start up.  I need to be able to read pdf files for my college course.  Everything was fine until this upgrade was loaded in, now I cannot get back to the old one, nor get the new one to work.  I have Mac OS X version 10.6.8  HELP  Have you come up with a patch?

I would like to know where Adobe creates "response" files

I would like to know where Adobe creates "response" files.

I received and opened a PDF file in Adobe-reader the other day and after I had finished reading it I got a pop-up saying that the sender would like a response. So I answered yes. That's when my problem started. I was doing this from inside MS-Outlook (2002). I have two e-mail accounts that I can send from, one of them being Hotmail. Unfortunately you cannot send e-mails from Outlook thru Hotmail, you get a known error. So what is happening is that Outlook is trying to resend this response over & over & over again. So I would like to beable to delete the file that Outlook is trying to send but I have no idea what the name is or where to find it. Anyone have any ideas??

Adobe Reader language pack mapping

Hi all, I use Reader 10.1.4 in WIN7. The PDF has many text labels in font type Myriad Pro.

I have a PDF which allows users to select language of current page, English, simplified Chinese, traditional Chinese, Korean and Japanese.  The text labels of different languages are dynamically generated using scripts in variables.

Untitled.gif

Initially, when I change the page from English to simplified Chinese, it should ask me to download simplified Chinese font pack. However, PDF pops up a warning and asks me to download Japanese language support pack. Like this:

un.gif

By clicking on OK, it opens the Jp pack download page (http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4881) in the web browser.

After downloading this pack (it installs 2 files, KozGoPr6N-Medium and KozMinPr6N-Regular in Reader DIR/Resource/CIDFont), I open the PDF and select Chinese again. This time it asks for simplified Chinese language support pack and take me to this page (http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4883).

Same thing happens when I try to select traditional Chinese. PDF directs me to download JP pack first, and second time direct to CN pack download page.

If the page is switched to Korean, PDF directs me to the correct Korean pack page.

I wonder why it goes to download JP, when I only need CN language pack. What is the mapping between the language of my page and the language pack downloaded from Adobe? Is there any way to correct this kind of mis-mapping?

This is a critical issue, and the client is adamant on it. So I’ll be grateful if you could look into it. If this is indeed an Adobe reader issue, then how can I contact Adobe technical support group?

I hope you guys have a sollutions for this, or help me find one. Also if you need more information please ask!

Cannot open PDF file after update to Acrobat Reader 11.0.1 / 10.1.5

I receive faxes from a service in the form of PDF files.  Up until today, I have been able to open them with no problem using Acrobat Reader 10.1.4 and lower.

Today, I updated Acrobat Reader to 10.1.5, and it's suddenly unable to open any of those files.  I tried uninstalling 10.1.5 and installing 11.0.1, and the same problem exists.

I also tried a computer with 11.0.0 that had not yet updated, and it works fine.

Apparently, it's something about this latest update.

The PDF files open in other viewers like Foxit, Sumatra, and Chrome with no problem.

Here is the error:

The offending file can be gotten from here:

Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated!

Adobe automatic updater notified me that I had an update to install. I tried installing it, and got the following message:

Error 2331. Error loading library MSPATCHA or finding entry point ApplyPatchToFileByHandlesEx

I tried Microsoft Fixit, no change. I uninstalled Adobe Reader from Control Panel Add/Remove Software and downloaded Adobe Reader X again, and it won't install--I get the same Error 2331.

Hand-Tool default selection.

How can I force Adobe Reader X to always use the Hand Tool?

On startup Adobe Reader uses the Select Tool by default and I always must switch to the Hand Tool manually. Is there a way to make this setting automatic?

I know that Reader is supposed to remember the last setting, but it is not doing that. I always have to select the Hand Tool manually.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Adobe Reader update (11.0.01), plugin getting HTTP Error 400. The request is badly formed.

After the new update, our clients using versions 11 (11.0.01), 10 and 9 started experiencing errors on FDF based AcroForms and .Net C#.

When the pdf loads in the browser and calls the c# page from page open action, the FIRST TIME, it gives "HTTP Error 400. The request is badly formed." error (if you turn off the "Show friendly error message" option in IE), otherwise, it gives a generic error.

But after the first time, after PDF is cached, the second time onwards, it will show no error. But if you clear your cache or got to a different PDF, you will still get the same error the first time.

******

Update : After doing some research, found that whenever the error occurs, in the HTTP request, come additional characters were getting inserted in the "Referer" Url and also in the FDF.

For instance, something like below (this is just a sample url and the last part is not just /A, but some special character before that too, but I couldnt paste it here.)

Referer: https://website.com/PDF/Template-p001.pdf/ A

Anyone has any thoughts on this or seen this? Any help to find the cause and/or fix to the issues is welcome.

Decreased performance with every 'upgrade'

$

I use Reader in a corporate environment and of course, at home.

This morning here at work I was prompted to install the latest and greates upgrade to what I presume is the free version or Reader X.

It suggested re-booting after installatin and I complied.

Now I open pdf's that 2 years ago would open in a heartbeat and I could literally fly through to find the informaiton I need. Now they open horribly slow and browsing through them is like watching spagetti sauce run down a wall ...at least for the first couple of minutes ...after which it appears all the indexing is done (for the 200th time on that document) and it finally starts to work.

This is a corporate environment and this increasingly poor performance is costing corporations a lot of money. If I as one user, spend 10 extra minutes per day due to this ...can you imagine the overall cost to corporations globally?? This is nuts Adobe. You are eroding the profit margins of the very corporations that facilitate your existence. Please go back to the drawing board. This isn't new. Each and every 'upgrade' since you included the indexing feature (or made it obvious) ...has resulted in slower loads.
