Can't Open PDF 2nd time

I can't open a pdf the 2nd time I open the file.  Works fine on other PC's with XP & 7, Adobe versions 9 through 11.  But on this PC (XP) I can not open the file on any Adobe Reader version either from the desktop or the original CD it cam on.  It will open fine the first time after I uninstall Adobe Reader then re-install it.  On the 2nd attempt I get a message that the file is either damaged or a file type unsupported.  it will still open fine on other computers.  What am I missing?  Is there some setting on this computerto change?  Any suggestions?  Thanks
