My organization has hundreds of pdfs that are generated by another party on our behalf. We need to be able to quickly search through these pdfs for specific data and we need to be able to narrow down our search by, for example, a facility number contained in the document's title. I've tried building a catalog in Acrobat and searching using Reader, but it seems to be fairly limited: searches only search inside pdfs, ignoring the document titles. Ideally, we would like to be able to do a search of an entire folder structure for documents with, for example '101' in the title, and containing the string 'Doe, John' on the same page as 'Resident Name' (unfortunately, since the pdfs are autogenerated by some other party's software, the contents of each box don't seem to be linear, so even though it will say 'Resident Name' right before 'Doe, John', they're not actually in that order as far as searching is concerned.
My question is, is there some sort of product or solution that will allow us to do this? Preferably, we would like end users to have access without setting up anything special on their PCs. I tried a pdf catalog on our network storage that anybody could search with Reader, but as I mentioned, the results were underwhelming. We'd like them to be able to access it via Reader, or a web browser or whatever, and, if possible, have individual fields to search for numbers or other strings in document names and strings within the documents themselves.
