How to get ADE to recognise kobo vox

I had a basic kobo which I registered with ADE when bought. It stopped working mainly because the navigation buttons wore out from page turning. I bought a kobo vox. I cannot authorize the vox as I cannot get ADE to recognise it. According to the help, when I plug it in with ADE running, it is supposed to give me the option of authorizing it. It does nothing.

Is there any way I can spur it to do so.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling ADE but to no avail.

I have tried using a different computer, but that also had the old kobo authorized on it.

I am running XP on one computer and Winddows 7 on the other.
