Hi,
I notice from the forums that this issue has already been covered a few time but they normally end with the note that either
1. An upgrade to 10.1.3 fixes the issue or
2. Disabling protected mode fixes the issue
I'm running XenApp 5.0 on Windows Server 2003 R2 64 Bit. Recently updated from reader 8.0 to 9.0 and have been observing issues with printing from the citrix servers to network printers that are assigned to it via Citrix policies. Having read the other posts I decided to update reader directly to 10.1.3 and have "protected mode" disabled
I downloaded AdbeRdr1013_en_US.exe and unpacked it using 7-zip. I then used the Adobe Customization Wizard X to customize the msi and have the EULA and enhanced security disabled. Didn't see an option to turn off "protected mode" in the customization wizard which I felt was unusual
Deployed the customised package successfully to all the citrix servers and everything worked fine for a couple of days. I now have users reporting printing issues again with similar symptoms. Adobe crashes as soon as they open a pdf file and attempt to print it. On the citrix server if I attempt to open Edit -> Preferences to check for the protected mode settting it crashes.
There also appears to be some disparity in the version information
Reader -> Help -> shows the version as 10.1.0
The msi file Acroread.msi from the source package shows the version as 10.0.1
The actual file name I downloaded was AdbeRdr1013_en_US.exe which implies that its 10.1.3
The executable AcroRd32.exe in the program files folder shows the version as 10.1.0.534
I'd like to clarify the following
How do I determine the actual version of reader that I am running
How do I check if reader x is running in protected mode if I cannnt access the preferences menu option
What are my options if 10.1.3 does not appear to fix the issue for me
In the meantime I intend to bounce the servers tonight and see if the preferences option is available after the restart. Failing which I will test turning off protected mode using the ADM file posted by TOM that someone has taken the trouble to make at http://blog.thesysadmins.co.uk/disable-adobe-reader-x-protected-mode-a dm.html
