I updated to the newest version of Reader XI (11.0.02) from the previous version of Reader XI when it was released and since then haven't been able to open pdf files. When I double click on a pdf or the shortcut to Reader I get the animated "busy" cursor for a second and nothing happens. When I hit CTRL-ALT-DEL, start Task Manager, and look under processes, AcroRd32.exe is running and if I try to open another pdf or start Reader from the shortcut another instance of Reader starts up.
I'm running 64 bit Windows 7 on a Dell Precision M6400 with an NVIDIA Quadro FX 2700M display adapter.
Troubleshooting that I've done:
Uninstall and reinstall Reader
Works until I restart the machine and then I'm back to not being able to open pdfs
Disabled security features based on posts from this forum but there is no change in behavior, Reader works only when uninstalled then reinstalled and when the machine is restarted it stops working.
Roll back to Reader X with no change in behavior. The roll back to Reader X also included disabling the security features that some people were having issues with.
Based on posts from this forum regarding problems with an NVIDIA driver update that caused issues with the users agreement to the Reader EULA not registering properly I uninstalled and reinstalled the NVIDIA display drivers both the ones that Dell provides (still a 2010 version) and the ones from the NVIDIA site which were released a few weeks ago and were supposed to fix the problem with the Reader XI EULA conflict. Neither of these fixed the problem.
Any ideas on what to try next?
