How do I open a pdf file when it comes up with 'raise without handler ' or 'error6'?

I downloaded the latest Adobe reader and it would not let me open any of my pdf files. What came up was 'raise without handler'. So i uninstalled it. I then opened a pdf file and it actually opened but quickly came up with 'error 6' and instructed me to tell the help support at Adobe. I tried to do that but have no idea what I am actually doing. I now cannot open any of my pdfs.
