Reader Install failure

I went to a new medical web site in our town, and logged in.  Almost immeidately, I was told Reader was out of date. Maybe a plug-in was out of date too.  I'm using Win7. FireFox.  I ususally ignore this message w/o any trouble.  Instead I was forced (by need) to get to my data.  An install of Adobe 10 (I think) began along with a McAfee virus checker. I certainly do not want that checker.

The install  persisted, and seemingly was going nowhere, so I stopped the install. Looking in the Control Panel for my installs I found McAfee.  It seemingly has two choices install/change (words on a pop-up when I clicked Publisher). Clicking that Publisher button produced a dialog that said I would need to wait. Many minutes later nothing had happened. How do I get rid of McAfee?

There may be problem because I really don't use Adobe Reader.  Instead I use PDF-X for my pdf work. Adobe Raader X (10.1.0).  Maybe I need to update PDF-X.  I've been getting msgs from them that the latest version is available.
