Failed to load Core DLL

I downloaded Acrobat XI and get the screen to select 'open in unprotected mode". When I select the unprotected mode, I get the error message "Acrobat failed to load its Core DLL"

I am using Windows 7 and Internet Explorer.

Any suggestions about the protect mode and the subsequent error message?
