I'm running Windows XP with SP3, I have attempted to download Reader using both Firefox and IE. I had been getting update errors for awhile, but Reader and Flash were still working for me. Finally I decided to uninstall and reinstall Reader and Flash. Flash installed without issue. Reader has been a pain in the neck. First it would claim to have installed, but not show up in my programs list (including in my currently installed programs list when I went to add/remove programs). Then I tried to install it with IE instead of Firefox, but that didn't work either. It would claim to have installed successfully but when I attempted to open a PDF I would be informed that windows couldn't find a program to open the file. I then recalled that I had uninstalled Adobe AIR. I reinstalled it, and something new happened. It wanted to update and did so successfully. When I redownloaded Adobe Reader it told me it needed to update. Clicked okay and it immediately told me that the update had failed, with error code 16820. After numerous further attempts, I've continued to get the same error code and I have no idea what to do about it. I have tons of PDFs that I need to be able to access but cannot. It's infuriating.
