Windows XP and Adobe products giving "out of memory"

We are having a ton of XP machines that are no longer able to run Adobe Acrobat Reader or Pro. As soon as you open Reader or Pro, you get an out of memory message. No PDF is involved! I found that if I go into C:\program files\adobe\reader 10 or 11.0( or acrobat 10) and rename the Plug_ins directory the problem goes away. This works ok as a workaround in Reader but in Pro, the directory keeps getting replaced. I have even deleted all files with in the plug-ins directory and left an empty directory but I still get the error. The other solution is to back everyone to 9 but this introduces errors of its own. I cannot find any documentation on why this is happening or a real solution. HELP!!!

Thanks
