Adobe Reader on Linux no longer supported - what do we do with your forms with calculations and java script?
Hi
got a big problem, cause Adobe announced that Adobe Reader for Linux is no longer supported.
we got many forms created by Adobe Acrobat. These contain calculations and checks on fields and values people enter. We use also Javascript.
Our main clientele uses Linux as desktops!!! Ubuntu and Linux Mint... We want to provide PDFs platform independent.
At the moment Adobe Reader on Linux works correctly. Although it's not supported to install it because of security issues.
What happens when Adobe Acrobat releases a new update? Will the forms still work with the old and unsupported Linux Adobe Reader?
Evince, gpdfview and Okular are PDF readers on Linux I tested but they cannot do the most simple calculations! So we definitely need Adobe Reader on Linux, don't we?
Adobe no longer is platform independent! There's no use of forms that are not platform independent! PDF means portalbe document format... What is going wrong at Adobe enterprise that they now stop support for Adobe Reader on Linux and neglect portability? I expect someone from Adobe enterprise to answer my request please!!!!
I need some good advice. We just resently put a lot of effort into making electronic Adobe Acrobat forms and no longer use paper forms. We need those forms to work on Linux, Mac and Windows!!! Users should be able to save and change the forms (with later changes that could occur) so web interface and web forms is no solution here.
WINE is no solution. Most of our users are no tech freaks...
I'm sorry if I sound a litte harsh, but I'm kind a devastated about the strange decision Adobe enterprise made. Why do you sell very expensive software like Adobe Acrobat with a lot of features and then don't support the only reader on Linux that can deal with that? How can you make this happen?
I'm expecting ideas for solving this litte night mare... I'd rather emailed to Adobe support, but I cannot find an email address.
kind regards...
