Can't Install Adobe Reader Under Windows 8

I cannot install Adobe Reader 11 under Windows 8.

I have tried with both Internet Explorer and Firefox.

In both cases, the OS prompts me with "Do you want to allow the following program to make changes?", I select "Yes". I am never prompted for anything after this.

I see Adobe Reader Installer (32 bit) running in my task manager, the install_reader11_en_mssd_aih.exe file disappears from my downloads directory and the installer hangs until I kill it or reboot.

I am running Windos 8 64 bit, and I have Adobe Air, Photoshop Elements 9 and Photoshop Inspiration Browser already installed.

When I highlight text in Adobe Reader X, everything works fine until i close out the document and reopen it.  Then all of the text i highlighted becomes pure yellow and completely blocks the words.  I have tried changing the opaqueness or whatever and it works until i get back into the document, and it is solid yellow again..?

no image w/a .pdf?

hello:

i am just curious about something. please pardon my stupidity. i have looked for the answer but i guess i'm not asking the right questions/keywords.

the other day i made an image in Photoshop Cs6 and then saved it as a .pdf and below is what the file looks like in my folder:

pdf_example_1.png

but today when i use the exact same settings this is what it looks like:

pdf_example_2.png

i'm just wondering if something has changed b/c i had a lot of Adobe updates last night. do pdf's no longer offer a preview image of the file?

i feel like a numbnut for asking but i really like the preview. and so i thought that just maybe i might be over looking something in the save as dialogs that i did before.

oh, also does anyone know why the top one has a green box w/a checkmark and the bottom one has a blue box w/2 forward arrows?

thank you so much for your time

Adobe Reader 10.1.4 Lock-Ups

Hello,

When our campus users launch Adobe Reader 10.1.4 after logging on to a campus machine via a network account (with a re-directed app data folder) and launch a PDF from a network location by double-clicking it from Windows Explorer, Adobe Reader will launch, but then lock up and enter a "Not Responding" state after a few seconds of working with the PDF. I can only reproduce this issue with both the Enable Protected Mode at startup and the Show me messages when I launch Reader boxes checked (if either box is unchecked, the lock-up does not occur). If I wait long enough, sometimes, the "Not Responding" state will end and I will be able to view the PDF without issues. However, after a single reboot, the problem re-occurs. Our campus machines are on the 32-bit Windows 7 OS.

I have been able to reproduce this issue in Adobe Reader 10.1.2, 10.1.3, and 10.1.4, but not in Adobe Reader 10.1.1. I am not able to reproduce this issue using a local account opening a local PDF, a local account opening a network PDF, or using a network account to open a local PDF. The issue also does not occur if the user first launches Adobe Reader, and then opens the network PDF using File->Open. In other words, the issue only occurs when a network account opens a network PDF by double-clicking on it from Windows Explorer.

I did some research in the Adobe Reader forums, and here are the workarounds that I found and my success with them:

1) Uncheck Enable Protected Mode at startup

As I stated before, this does work around the problem, but also decreases security. As a troubleshooting step, I tried using the Adobe Reader documentation to white-list everything that Protected Mode was 'blocking'. The lock-ups still occurred even though the Protected Mode log was empty (after whitelisting) and did not indicate that anything was being blocked.

2) Disable Enable Hardware rendering for legacy video cards

This workaround did not work for me, even after disabling the legacy video cards and switching  the preferred renderer to software.

3) Uninstall and reinstall Adobe Reader

This workaround was also ineffective.

4) Uncheck Show me messages when I launch Reader

As I stated before, this does work around the problem.

But these are not fixes - just workarounds. Does anyone know what the root problem is and whether or not Adobe will be addressing this issue?

Thank you in advance.

I can't save rotated PDF.

Why can't I save a rotated PDF?  I open a PDF file in Adobe Reader, and it is up-side down, so I rotate it twice and then save it with a new name (for some reason, I can't simply save it).  The new file is exactly like the old one - upside down.  I've tried it several times, trying to find some way to do it differently, but with no success.

When I try to open a statement in Quicken (PDF format) I receive the error 1074724867.3 - "If Adobe is already running, please exit & try again."  System (Quicken) uses Adobe Reader to create PDF.

I have checked Adobe support and have found only a few reports none of which provides an answer.

I am using Quicken deluxe 2011 with IE browser 10 (v. 10.0.9200).

Can someone Please! help me out?

Thank you,

I cannot open any PDF's in Internet Explorer

Starting just a few days ago, I can no longer open PDF files in Internet Explorer (IE 9). I'm not sure, but this could have started when I upgraded from Reader X 10.1.5 to 10.1.6.

I can open PDF's fine in Firefox 19.0, just not Internet Explorer. I have tried numerous suggestions that I found in this forum and elsewhere:

  1. Turned off popup blocker.
  2. Changed the Internet option in Adobe Reader's preferences to both open PDF's in the browser and not to open the PDF in the browser. Neither option works.
  3. Tried running Internet Explorer in Compatiilty View for the websites where I am trying to view the PDF files.
  4. There was a suggestion to clear the Internet Explorer cache. I could not find that option (cache) under the Setting for IE. The closest thing I found was Temporary Internet Files, so I deleted them.
  5. I uninstalled Adobe Reader and installed an earlier version (10.1.4).
  6. I made sure that the plugin/extention 'Adobe PDF Helper' was enabled.

None of the above has helped. I'm just about out of ideas. The fact that I can still open PDF's using Firefox makes this less than an emergency, but I would really like to get this resolved.

I had some trouble searching this forum (Adobe Reader) thoroughly, so if there is another post out there that has some solutions (other than the 6 items I already tried) please fell free to post a link to it.

Thanks in advance for any help.
